Dandara Living has widely engaged the local community. We’ve received more than 400 responses and met many different local community, religious, cultural, educational and business groups.
This page summarises how these conversations have shaped our plans.
Our plans represent an important element of the broader Frome Gateway regeneration, opening up access and providing new community facilities.
We’ve worked closely with partners across the Frome Gateway to learn from the engagement that’s already taken place and ensure our plans work alongside other sites coming forward.
We received a range of valuable feedback on what local people would like to see as part of our ground floor space.
Some of the most popular options cited during our consultation were to set up a workshop, maker spaces and affordable workspace which we have taken forward.
Dandara Living is engaged in active conservations with a number of groups and businesses who are interested in using these spaces.
People were enthusiastic about our ideas on making better use of and improving access to the banks of the River Frome itself. We will create a new walkway and an area where people can sit, meet and relax in a vibrant natural environment.
We propose to clear the existing overgrowth and introduce new plant life and habitats. Dandara Living is exploring opportunities to involve the community in creating these outside spaces.
We have taken on board responses that highlighted the need for us to consider how best to integrate new students into the wider community. Detailed discussions have taken place with the local community, the University of Bristol and University of the West of England, this included conversations with students, members of the local community and local religious, cultural and business organisations.
Our hope is that the ground floor space will enable the student population and wider community to mix. We also recognise the importance of well-run waste and recycling facilities as well as a robust long-term management strategy.
Increased accessibility through and into the area was highlighted as a key issue for many people. Our plans to open up the riverside walkway and a proposed route through Eugene Street will support this objective.
Little George Street is a sustainable location that will encourage the use of public transport. Bike storage as part of the scheme will also make it more convenient to cycle.
